Art Direction, Brand Illustration

A speakeasy at the only 5 star hotel east of Quebec City.
A menu that is a cocktail book, that is literally a book — a collection of stories sharing the pieces of Nova Scotian history for all of its guests.
This is BKS.
As the Lead Designer and Art Director at Freehand, I was given a list of stories that each needed a hero illustration. I needed to sift through the stories, find common threads, and come up with a set of eleven illustrations to bring the book to live. The layout was predetermined to a degree, due to the binding method/materials, but had room for improvement.
The illustrations needed to build upon each other, be visually cohesive with each other, speak to each cocktail and draw the reader in. I came up with the concepts and the illustration style to achieve this.
As it stands, the most popular and highest driver of sales are the potatoes — can you find them? Which one is your favourite? Let me know!
